Bio

Nichol DelGiorno '97 is the Director of Choral Activities at Illinois College and teaches piano, organ, musicology, music theory, and voice. She is also an active and versatile professional musician, concertizing as both a solo and collaborative keyboardist and as a mezzo-soprano. Formerly Director of Liturgy and Music at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception/Associate Director of Music for the Springfield Catholic Diocese, she now serves as organist and choirmaster at Temple B’rith Sholom and the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Paul, both in Springfield, Illinois. Her doctoral research focused on the organ works of 17th-century South German composer Johann Ulrich Steigleder. Dr. DelGiorno is also a scholar of Cuban music, specifically that of the western province of Pinar del Río. She presented at an international symposium at the University of Pinar del Río in 2017 and was a contributing presenter at an international conference in Havana in 2020. She travels regularly to Pinar del Río to continue her research, to collaborate with Cuban scholars, and to work with their center for music, assisting in their music preservation efforts.
