What will your first year look like? This session will explore the First-Year Experience (FYE) to help you envision yourself succeeding on campus. You will hear about academics, social life, volunteer and service opportunities, and what it means to be a first year student.

Unknowns can be frightening, however, being knowledgeable can ease those fears. Please join Jessica Edonick, Dean of Students, Dennis Schumacher, Executive Director of Residential Life and Campus Safety, Amy Schwiderski, Associate Dean and Director of the Center for Academic Excellence, and Sara-Jean Gilbert, Director of Recruitment and Outreach, Office of Admission for a Real Talk about what your student may encounter in college and the ways Illinois College assists your student. You will receive tips about how to have difficult conversations before your student begins their journey at IC. Be prepared for frank discussions about alcohol/drugs, mental health, sexual assault, and more.

Join team members from Residential Life (“ResLife”), The Center for Student Engagement, Inclusion, and Belonging (“The C-SEB”), and The Chesley Health & Wellness Center (“Chesley”) to hear important tips and tricks for successfully navigating campus resources, staying healthy, and being engaged across campus to make the most of your college experience.
Oh, You're Going to College! What’s Your Major? :: Kirby 110
One of the common and sometimes anxiety producing questions asked is “What’s your major?” The ink is barely dry on your high school diploma and you are expected to have life figured out?! This session will help you think about charting your own path through college and into a meaningful career, no matter what major you choose. Join Kelly Pool, Executive Director of Career Readiness and Experiential Learning to begin to look at your life from a designer’s perspective.
Coaching Across Campus :: Kirby 112
From the classroom to the athletic arenas, all students at Illinois College are supported by a variety of coaches. During your time at IC, you will experience many new transitions, but you don't have to face those challenges alone! Attend the Coaching Across Campus session and meet/learn about how students can count on academic, career, and athletic coaches from the Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) and TRIO; the Office of Career Readiness and Experiential Learning (CREL); and the Athletic Department.
