Nolan Decker '26
Doctoral Student of Physical Therapy | University of Evansville
Nolan Decker ’26 says Illinois College helped him find both professional direction and lifelong friendships.
After graduating with a degree in kinesiology, Decker has begun the doctorate of physical therapy program at the University of Evansville.
“I feel really lucky for the experiences and mentors I had here,” Decker said.
Decker credits professors including Findley Family Professor of International Affairs and Professor of Political Science Winston Wells and Associate Professor of Biology Paul Hamilton with helping him prepare for graduate-level coursework.
“Dr. Wells was my first-year seminar professor. He helped me figure out which classes were the right fit for me and really helped pave the academic path I ended up pursuing,” Decker said.
Outside of the classroom, Decker balanced academics with athletics as a member of the men’s baseball team and served the campus community as an involvement leader, helping newer students transition to campus life.
Through coursework and experiential learning, he discovered a passion for helping others recover, improve mobility and achieve long-term wellness goals.
“The kinesiology program really helped connect classroom knowledge with practical application,” he said.
As he begins a doctorate in physical therapy at the University of Evansville, Decker says Illinois College gave him the confidence and preparation to succeed.
“My time at Illinois College has prepared me for the future through leadership opportunities, strong mentorship and hands-on learning that have given me the tools to succeed in physical therapy school.”
