Illinois College extends its sympathy to Dan Langan on the death of his mother, Jeane Langan, on February 10. She was also the mother-in-law of Valerie Velinski Langa ’83, the aunt of Tiffany Carl Flowers ’97 and grandmother of Mitchell Neally ’09.

Susan Teckenbrock Dolce ’76

graduated from Texas Christian University in December 2018 with a master’s degree in liberal arts. She has been employed at TCU for 9 years presently holding the position of director of degree certification for the College of Science and Engineering.

Mark Janus ’75

, the plaintiff in a landmark decision by the Supreme Court in 2018 which ruled that non-union members do not have to pay fees to cover activities like collective bargaining, was honored for his “remarkable demonstration of courage” with the 2019 Whittaker Chambers Award by the National Review Institute at the 2019 Ideas Summit in March.

Illinois College extends its sympathy to Lora Pond Murgatroyd on the death of her cousin Valerie Blane ’70 on December 28, 2018. Blane was a loyal member of Chi Beta literary society and a former president for the group.

James Alexander ’69

James Alexander completed a religious pilgrimage to Israel and Jerusalem in February to visit several holy sites and said the highlight was being able to visit the Holy Tomb where Jesus’ body laid before resurrection.

Richard Hildner ’68

ran the 100-mile Tunnel Hill in Vienna, Illinois, on November 9-10, in 29 hours, 25 minutes. At 72 years old, he was the oldest, but not the last finisher in the race.

Joy French Becker ’67 H’15

was honored by the Jacksonville Public Schools Foundation with a Jacksonville High School Distinguished Alumni Award as part of Jacksonville School District 117’s Sesquicentennial Celebration. She was awarded an honorary doctor of humane letters from IC in 2015 and is an emeriti trustee who served the Illinois College Board of Trustees for 23 years, recently completing a successful 10-year term as board chair.
