Michael Niederbrach '18

At Illinois College, Michael Niederbrach `18 has found a welcoming community and the resources he needs to Graduate READY for a career in medicine.

The biochemistry major said that as an undergraduate he has gained hands-on experience with student-faculty research working with Dr. Brent, assistant professor of chemistry. The project has spanned semesters, giving Michael practice with organic synthesis of a molecule that could contribute to disease research. As part of IC’s pre-med program, Michael has been preparing for the MCAT, applying to programs and working closely with faculty advisor Laura Corey. He said IC has done a lot to cover the cost of study materials and to connect him with the resources he needs to prepare for a future in medicine. Michael said the most impressive thing about his education at IC was how supportive the community has been. 

“Everyone at Illinois College has made me feel welcome. Everyone here knows my name and takes an interest in my education. I didn't realize how easy it would be to join so many different clubs and actually find the time to do everything. There are so many opportunities to be involved.”
