Kaitlin Thompson Houser '19

For Kaitlin Thompson Houser ’19, an internship at DOT foods turned into a job in human resources immediately after graduation.

The focus on internships is what originally drew Kaitlin to IC — she was ready to start gaining hands-on experience in her field on day one. She says her years at IC did not disappoint. Katilin completed an internship each summer she was at IC, and her last internship at Dot Foods culminated in a job offer. She says her extracurriculars at IC helped her develop the professional skills needed to launch a promising career in human resources. Serving as vice chair of the Student Senate helped her feel more confident in a leadership position, and her time as a resident advisor helped her understand conflict resolution and the value of being organized. Kaitlin was excited to apply the skills she gained at Illinois College to a position as a human resources specialist at Dot Foods immediately after graduation. As she looks toward the opportunities in her future, she is thankful for those people who she met and worked with during her time at IC.

“We really feel like a big family and the faculty made a really big impact on my time here. They helped shape me professionally into the person I am today. I am able to apply the tools I learned at IC to help me do my job effectively.”
