Graduate Ready

Gabrielle Esparza '16

When Gabrielle Esparza ’16 graduated from IC, she was ready to jump into the next chapter of her life right away.

Gabrielle Esparza ’16

For Gabrielle that chapter included the fulfillment of her longtime dream to teach the English language in Argentina as a recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship. As a student, Gabrielle studied Spanish and history and was encouraged to seek out learning experiences that would allow her to apply her studies in real-world settings. She spent a semester abroad in Argentina as a junior and began work on an ongoing research project that included interviews with the native people. Gabrielle credits the guidance of IC faculty and her experiences as a student with giving her the confidence to take on her next challenge.

“Without the encouragement of Dr. Steven Gardner, Dr. Margaret Marek, Dr. Steve Hochstadt and Dr. Robert Kunath, I do not think I would have had the courage to pursue such an ambitious goal. While my coursework and extracurricular experiences certainly made me a competitive candidate, professors that pushed me to seek the best opportunities made the Fulbright a reality for me.”
