Emily graduated with a degree in biology and is studying to become a dentist at Southern Illinois University. She has also been accepted by the United States Air Force Health Professions Scholarship Program to fund her education, allowing her to graduate debt free when she begins her service as a captain in the Air Force. She is now a fully commissioned member of the Air Force Reserves.

"From the second I stepped onto campus I felt like it was a second home. I loved Parker Science Building especially. I came in knowing I wanted to go into dentistry, so I knew I'd spend a lot of time there. I loved Parker's layout and how new it was.”

Events made campus feel really alive and Emily was actively involved in multiple organizations. She was a member of the IC Scholars Honors Program, the service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega and student organizations Identity Campus Ministry and Future Health Care Professionals.

"I think getting involved really taught me how to be a leader. I've had leadership experience in almost all of the groups that I've belonged to. It’s where I developed a lot of my relationships on campus, as well."

Emily also gained critical experiences traveling internationally with a BreakAway, conducting and presenting research, and interning and working in a dental office. She worked with her advisor, Associate Professor of Biology Miranda Karban, to develop a unique dental-related research topic and her research has been published by the Illinois State Academy of Science.

"I truly don't think I would have had access to the wide range of experiences that I have had at IC anywhere else. At another school I might have been able to get an internship or research opportunity, but I don't think I would have had all of the experiences I’ve had. I also received assistance for preparing for the DAT through the GO! Program at IC. I don't think another school would have been so supportive of my journey and helpful in making my application as strong as possible."
