Bio

Dr. Brent Chandler enjoys the challenge of teaching students a difficult subject like organic chemistry while helping them to see its relevance as part of their overall education. He brings that same interdisciplinary approach to the lab. He believes strongly in the power of student-faculty research and the projects he advises tend to cross disciplinary boundaries so that organic chemistry (the ability to conceive and make molecules) addresses issues in other fields of study. He encourages students to present their findings externally. In recent years he has sponsored trips to the American Chemical Society (ACS) meetings in Indianapolis, Denver, Grand Rapids, Peoria, and Champaign-Urbana where students interact with a wide variety of chemists and see how they fit into the larger chemistry community.
