Men’s Basketball

In Head Coach Steve Schweer’s first season in charge, the Illinois College men’s basketball team produced its best record since 2013-14 by going 9-16 (7-11 Midwest Conference). The Blueboys got hot at the end of the season, winning five of their last seven games to raise expectations heading into next season. Point guard Mason Speer ’19 ended his career with a season in which he ranked fifth in the nation, averaging 6.9 assists per game. He was named Second Team All-MWC and was a CoSIDA Academic All District selection.

Women’s Basketball

The women’s basketball team finished the season at 10-15 overall, with a 6-12 mark in the Midwest Conference. Brielle Greenleaf ’19 earned All-MWC recognition for the third straight season, picking up a Second Team All-MWC accolade. The Lady Blues were particularly strong inside Sherman Gymnasium, winning eight of their 12 home games, including victories over two teams – Lake Forest and St. Norbert – who advanced to the MWC Tournament.

Men’s and Women’s Swimming

The men’s and women’s swimming teams had one of the most successful MWC Championships ever. Hannah Marks ’20 and Davide Sanna ’22 combined to win five events for the Lady Blues and Blueboys. Marks repeated as the conference champion in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke events, and also was All-MWC with a runner-up finish in the 200 IM. Sanna made a splash by winning three events in his freshman season, the 200 IM and the 100 and 200 Backstrokes. The men’s 800 Freestyle Relay also earned All-MWC honors by virtue of finishing third. Overall, the Lady Blues placed fourth at the championships and the Blueboys ended in seventh.

Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field

The Illinois College track and field teams registered strong showings at the Midwest Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 22-23. The Blueboys finished in third place in the conference and the Lady Blues finished in fourth place. A total of seven individuals earned All-MWC honors by finishing in the top three in their respective events. Dakota Stevens ’21 was the 60 Meter Hurdles champion of the MWC, as was the men’s 4 x 400 Meter Relay. Andrea Hyde ’20 made her first appearance at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, traveling to Boston to compete in the 60 Meter Dash. With a time of 7.93 seconds in the prelims, Hyde finished 20th nationally in the event.
