Winter 2019: Focus on STEM

Starting in her first year at Illinois College, Eve Bahler ’19 has found many opportunities to apply what she’s learning in the classroom to the real world.

The senior biochemistry and Spanish major has traveled to Cuba to study the culture and environment, spent a summer diving into research as an intern at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in Maryland, broadened her global education with a semester studying abroad in Spain and developed skills working alongside IC professors who are experts in their fields. As she moves toward the next step in her educational journey — applying to physician assistant graduate programs — Bahler says that IC has inspired and prepared her for her future career.

Her advice for students coming into IC: “Look for opportunities and you can definitely find them here. Illinois College has connections around the world that will set you apart. Being genuinely interested and engaged will take you a long way.”
