Illinois College has named Head Softball Coach Meghan Roman as interim director of athletics.

She will continue to serve as head coach. Roman succeeds Mike Snyder, who was recently named director of athletics and recreation at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington.

Roman finished her 11th season as a member of the athletic staff at IC and her ninth season as head coach of the Illinois College softball team in 2021. She was named senior woman administrator in 2013, elevated to assistant athletics director in 2017, and promoted again to associate athletics director in 2019.

“For the past decade, Coach Roman has championed athletics at Illinois College with passion, enthusiasm and expertise,” President Barbara A. Farley said. “I am delighted she has agreed to expand her leadership role. I have full confidence that Meghan will skillfully guide the Department of Athletics, continuing to provide our students with extraordinary opportunities to compete and grow.”

Roman wraps up her most successful season with the Lady Blues softball program this year after winning their first Midwest Conference Championship (MWC) in program history. The Lady Blues made their first appearance in the NCAA postseason at the 2021 NCAA Division III Softball Championship Tournament. The team finished their historic season with an overall record of 25-14 and 13-1 in the MWC.

“I am beyond excited to have the opportunity to lead and mentor the coaches, staff and student-athletes at Illinois College in this new role of interim director of athletics. Illinois College has a strong history rooted in excellence, and I am excited to begin working on strengthening an already thriving department,” Roman said.

A native of Chicago, Roman earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary and special education from Carthage College in 2010. She is a graduate of the NCAA Women’s Coaches Academy in 2012. At the end of the 2021 fall semester, Roman will complete a master’s degree in industrial and organizational psychology from Southern New Hampshire University.
