Political Science majors must complete a minimum of 36 semester hours (nine courses) in the discipline, including PO 101, PO 150 (or PO 180), a 200-level elective, two 300-level American Politics electives, two 300-level International Relations/Comparative Politics electives, one 200- or 300- level elective, and PO 485, the departmental capstone.
In addition, all majors are strongly encouraged to pursue experiential learning opportunities such as internships, study abroad/ BreakAway, or service projects. Some departmental funds are available to support these activities.
To minor in political science, students must complete a minimum of 20 semester hours (5 courses) in the discipline, including PO 101, PO 150 (or PO 180), and three elective PO courses at the 200-level or above.
Students must complete the major or minor in political science with a grade point average of 2.0 or better for courses in the discipline. No student may register for PO 485 with less than a 2.0 GPA in the major. No courses in which a student earns below a ‘C-’ will be counted as meeting major or minor course requirements
