Integrating Feminism into the Practice of Therapy: A Qualitative Exploration of Values and Practices within the Modern Mental Healthcare System

Joy Heafner is a doctoral candidate in the Human Development and Family Studies Department at the University of Connecticut. She is a researcher/practitioner with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy, as well as a certificate in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. She also has a Master's degree in psychology from the University of Chicago, as well as a Bachelor's degree from Illinois College where she majored in psychology and Spanish, and minored in gender and women's studies. Joy's doctoral research is qualitative study of how marriage and family therapists integrate feminist theory and activism into their clinical work, as well as how they enact feminist principles in an increasingly medicalized mental healthcare system.
