CONNECTIONS SEMINARS
The Connections Seminar Courses at Illinois College offer incoming students an opportunity to enter into small learning communities to explore an exciting topic. These seminars also provide you with a common experience by which you are introduced to the values of a liberal arts education. The individual seminars, offered from a variety of academic disciplines, are tied together through our Connections theme and focus on excellence, integrity, communication and tolerance. These classes are required for first-year students and count toward the general education requirements. Registration for these courses takes place during summer orientation.
When you select a Connections Seminar, you are also selecting a faculty member to serve as your academic advisor. Your advisor will guide you through the academic advising process until you officially declare a major. Because your advisor will also be teaching you in a class, you will have numerous opportunities to connect!
In requiring all first year students to take a Connections Seminar, we will provide all incoming students with a common experience that will allow them to: become members of a learning community, distinguish the standards of college-level work, develop classroom discussion skills, develop critical reading and writing skills, learn the distinct value of a liberal arts education, explore the vital connections among various disciplines and fields of knowledge, understand the values of the Illinois college community and form relationships with their advisors and with a small group of peers.
If you have any questions regarding the IC Connections Seminars, please call the Student Activities Center at (217) 245-3094 or email connect@ic.edu.
