*Admissions Counselor – Native American emphasis - Office of Admissions and Records; University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Primary Function:

This is a full-time, 12-month Academic Professional position.  To provide information about the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and the admissions and enrollment process to prospective students, their families and high school and community college counselors.  This position will have an emphasis in Native American recruitment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

·         In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Admissions, the Native American House, and the campus community identify key recruitment areas for Native American students.

·         Provide high quality service in all interactions with counselors, applicants and parents of prospective students.

·         Present the outstanding academic resources, programs, facilities and extracurricular offerings of the Urbana-Champaign campus to prospective students and their parents.  This includes speaking with individuals and to audiences ranging in size from 10 to 250 or more people.

·         Serve as liaison between the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the Native American House.

·         Follow up on promising admission prospects by telephone and/or written correspondence.

·         Respond to prospective student inquiries for admissions information by telephone, in writing, via e-mail and in person.

·         Represent the University at college day/night programs at high schools, community colleges, college fairs and community or Native American focused events.

·         Review as a member of the Admissions Committee, the academic qualifications and personal statement of applicants.

·         Assume responsibility for several project assignments each year including assisting with programming planning and communications.  The administrative project assignments for this position may vary from year to year based on the office’s objectives, the skills of the admissions staff, and the incumbent’s abilities and interests.

Due to the nature of this position, evening and weekend work can be expected throughout the year, especially during the fall and spring. Candidates must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be prepared to travel overnight based upon the geographic territory assigned. While the majority of the work is done sitting or standing, the ability to lift boxes weighing up to 50 pounds is also necessary. Candidates may need to access non-ADA compliant buildings. Candidates must demonstrate strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; the ability to work independently and within a team environment; possess strong analytical and independent decision making ability and the ability to work with a diverse population. Working knowledge of MS Office applications, including Word and Excel is required.

We manufacture products sold to grocery wholesalers, institutional food distributors and convenience stores.   We are seeking a high-energy, self-motivated person with a desire to succeed to join our organization as a Technical Service Representative.

The position will call for a significant amount of overnight travel covering From NE to PA (east to west) and ND to TN (north to south).   Candidates must have reliable transportation of not more than five years old.  A monthly auto allowance and gas will be paid to the successful candidate.

Qualification for this position include; well developed inter-personal relationship skills, use of a personal computer and ability to use Microsoft applications, the ability to travel with extended overnight travel and preferably a degree in sales, marketing or business.

The position will be involved with all aspects of technical customer service including:

·          Complete product and development training as required.

·          Contact existing customers to discuss their needs, and to explain how these needs could be met by specific products and services.

·          Answer customers' questions about products, prices, availability, and product uses

·          Demonstrate and explain the operation and use of products.

·          Emphasize product features based on analyses of customers' needs, and on technical knowledge of product capabilities and limitations.

·          Complete expense reports, sales reports, and other paperwork.

·          Maintain customer records, using automated systems.

·          Provide customers with ongoing technical support.

·          Train establishment personnel in equipment use.

·          Visit establishments in order to check product sales.

·          Visit establishments to evaluate needs and to promote product or service sales.

·          Recommend ways for customers to alter product usage in order to improve sales

·          Select the correct products or assist customers in making product selections, based on customers' needs, product specifications, and applicable regulations.

·          Review existing machinery/equipment placement, and create diagrams to illustrate efficient space utilization

·          Attend sales and trade meetings, and read related publications in order to obtain information about market conditions, business trends, and industry developments.

·          Collaborate with colleagues to exchange information such as selling strategies and marketing information.

·          Assist Sales representative with tele-marketing and phone surveys

*This fall the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation, known since 1945 for highly competitive fellowships, will offer a new fellowship opportunity for recent college graduates, as well as individuals—from midlife professionals to retirees—who might wish to change careers.  This new award, the Woodrow Wilson Indiana Teaching Fellowship seeks to attract talented, committed mathematics, science, and engineering graduates into teaching in high-need high schools. Funded through a $10 million grant from the Lilly Endowment, the Fellowship offers rigorous disciplinary and pedagogical preparation, extensive clinical experience, and ongoing mentoring.  The Woodrow Wilson Indiana Teaching Fellowship will provide Fellows in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields with a $30,000 stipend during a master’s degree program at one of four Indiana universities. The master’s program will prepare Fellows in urban and rural high schools that serve primarily disadvantaged students. In exchange, Fellows will commit to teach math or science for three years in an Indiana secondary school. Upon completing the master’s degree and teaching certification, Fellows will be placed in teaching jobs in participating districts, where they will receive continued support and mentoring. ·         They will have completed a math, science, or engineering major as undergraduates.

·         They will graduate in the top ten percent of their class.
