Illinois College continues in the tradition of leading the way that has been its hallmark since 1829. One of the first Illinois colleges to be awarded a chapter of
Phi Beta Kappa, the College offers a challenging academic program that provides excellent preparation for graduate and professional study. The 11:1 student to faculty ratio ensures ready access to faculty who share a commitment to helping students succeed.
Illinois College is marked by a strong sense of community, humane values, respect for the dignity of all people, a tradition of service to others and a commitment to caring for our natural environment. The entire Illinois College family has embraced the affirmation of community responsibility and the campus is guided by an academic honor code developed by students.
Among its prominent alumni, Illinois College counts 20 members of United States Congress, a chaplain of both the United States House and Senate, a Secretary of State, six governors and various advisors to United States Presidents. The College was the site of the first medical school in the State of Illinois, and an Illinois College education continues to be well suited for students who wish to pursue careers in medicine, education, business or public service.
In addition to pursuing rigorous courses of study in 26 majors and five interdisciplinary programs, students at Illinois College can participate in 20 intercollegiate sports and in any of 60 student organizations. The visual and performing arts also thrive at the College.
The strength of Illinois College is rooted in the teaching skills and commitment to students of its faculty. These scholars are passionate about their academic disciplines and foster in students a desire for learning that extends far beyond their college years.
