Graphic Standards Manual and Style Guide
Version 1.3 :: August 2010
In 2008 Illinois College adopted a new graphic identity reflecting the institution’s distinguished tradition and sense of mission.

Projecting a consistent and bold image of Illinois College's new graphic identity fosters awareness of, and recognition for, the College. All requests for copies of the logo — available in a variety of file formats — as well as approvals for usage should be routed through the Office of Marketing and Brand Development.

If you require further direction on usage of the College’s graphic elements in production of your materials, please contact the office by emailing trueblue@ic.edu or calling 217.245.3048. Templates will be available for certain projects. Anything that includes the College logo or wordmark must be approved by the Office of Marketing and Brand Development.

The style guide section is offered as a tool to ensure consistency among publications, correspondence and other communications written on behalf of Illinois College. The Associated Press Stylebook serves as the primary reference guide for punctuation, italicization and capitalization. Some academic journals and publications require unique reference and grammatical rules. In such cases, you are encouraged to consult those standards.

This brief guide is not comprehensive, but rather addresses the most common style issues and points unique to Illinois College and those areas in which the College diverges from AP Style. You may address specific questions to the Office of Marketing and Communication at 217.245.3048 or trueblue@ic.edu.

This Graphic Standards Manual and Style Guide is designed to give general guidance.

Illinois College Color Palette
Graphic Standards and Style Guide :: August 2010
The official Illinois College colors are PMS 662 blue and PMS 430 gray, along with black.

There are a number of printing options which affect how you use the official Illinois College colors. These include:

Spot color: When possible, please use the spot-color version of the logo, (as seen on page 4) which includes the Pantone® Matching System colors PMS 662 and PMS 430.

Process color: When printing materials in four-color process (CMYK), please give the printer the numbers below — they represent the proportions of cyan, magenta, yellow and black inks needed to blend the Illinois College blue and gray. The CMYK values for our official colors are:

One-color: When your project does not allow for a two-color logo, please use the one-color version, in either PMS 662 or black (the iconic and word-only logos should never be reproduced in PMS 430 gray).
Reverse: The Illinois College logo may be "reversed out" to white when your background color is dark (blue or black, for example).
RGB Color Model: Used for onscreen display (computer monitor, television, etc.). The RGB values for Illinois College blue and gray are:

Logos and Wordmark
The graphic element that makes up the iconic Illinois College logo is derived from the design of the windows of Sturtevant Hall. As the Sturtevant tower is an iconic landmark of Illinois College, the windows are appropriately representative of the College’s deep history.

This is the preferred logo for Illinois College. The campus community may access downloadable logo files on one of the College’s shared network servers.

The True Blue wordmark often appears on printed materials. True Blue is the color of excellence, opportunities and success, representing the best qualities of our students, faculty and community.

Please contact the Office of Marketing and Brand Development at 217.245.3048 if you have questions or need additional information.

Illinois College Secondary Color Palette
Graphic Standards and Style Guide :: August 2010
The following colors make up the official secondary color palette for all Illinois College communications. Along with the Illinois College blue and gray, these are the only colors that should be used for brochures, promotional items, Web pages or flyers. When working with outside vendors, please ensure that they are able to guarantee a match with the PMS colors, especially the blue (PMS 662) and the gray (PMS 430). Some printers may print a color that is close to the PMS 662, but we prefer an exact match so as to preserve the integrity of the Illinois College True Blue branding. For clothing items where it may be more difficult the match the PMS color, please contact the Office of Marketing and Brand Development.

The palette may be used in its entirety for a project, or you may choose to use only a few colors. Each color is designed to complement the blue and gray, so combinations of three colors will look as cohesive as combinations of six or seven colors. All print pieces should at least include the blue (PMS 662), and preferably the gray (PMS 430) as well.
