USC scientist to talk green chemistry
Thomas Mathew will be on campus to present “Green Chemistry: Towards Sustainable Future” on Tuesday, March 13, at 7:30 p.m. in Kirby Learning Center, Room 6.

Mathew, senior scientist at Loker Hydrocarbon Research Institute at the University of Southern California, will acquaint his audience with the philosophy of green chemistry. This includes avoiding hazardous chemicals and technologies, producing benign materials, and moving to better lives and a better future. 

Matthew's convocation will illustrate what people can do to improve the health of the planet regardless of their profession. He will also show the benefits of green chemical processes which include the use of eco-friendly catalysts for various chemical reactions, solvent-free syntheses and micro-wave chemistry. The scientist will also share his insights into future achievements in the field of green chemistry.
