| Japanese Lecture Series to give update on Japan earthquake |
|
| The Japanese Studies Lecture Series continues this semester with a discussion about “U.S.-Japan Relations and the Great East Japan Earthquake” on Tuesday, February 21, in Kirby Learning Center, Room 6, at 7:30 p.m. Consul Kotaro Matsuzawa of the Consulate General of Japan at Chicago will give the Illinois College community an update on the devastation caused by the earthquake that shook Japan in March 2011 and discuss the history and issues of U.S.-Japan relations.
The Consulate General of Japan at Chicago serves the 10 Midwestern states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
The main purposes of the consulate are to serve Japanese nationals, represent the Japanese government, and provide travel services and cultural information about Japan to non-Japanese residents within the 10-state jurisdiction.
The Japanese Studies Lecture Series is taking place throughout the 2011-2012 academic year. The series is meant to enhance the understanding of the Japanese culture and inspire not only the college community, but also generate interest in Japan within the local community as well. |
