IC Explorer Internship Description H. D. Smith Springfield, Illinois H.D. Smith is offering three internship options.   These positions are ideal for Accounting, Finance, Economics, and Management and Organizational Leadership majors.  Junior class standing is preferred. Accounting Department 2 Internships Available H.D. Smith is a wholesale pharmaceutical firm located in Springfield, Illinois. The intern will work with the accounting department with their daily work as well as the summer audit. The intern needs to have a major in accounting and junior standing is preferred. The intern will be immersed in the work of the accounting department. The student will see private accounting tasks but also will see public accounting as they research for the auditors. The intern will see all aspects of the job and will do “real” accounting work. Not all interns do the same tasks but past projects have involved work with expense reports, banking, new projects, preparing for audit, using Excel, working with invoices, margin check of gross profit, and coding expenses. Each full-time accountant will assign projects and work with the intern. The intern’s supervisor will assist the intern in assigning priority to these multiple projects. Candidates need excellent accounting skills, a desire to learn more about the accounting field, and outstanding oral and written communication skills. The intern may work with every division of H. D. Smith and needs the self-confidence to interact daily with professionals from throughout the company, as well as the auditors. Candidates need to understand how to utilize technology as well as the program Excel. The ability to multi-task, focus on work, be flexible, and be honest and thorough are necessary traits. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting major to immerse themselves in an accounting department and assess their own skills and interest in the field. The intern will work with the generic drug division in the pricing department assisting with the analysis of generic pharmaceutical market pricing. The intern needs to have a major in Accounting, Finance or Marketing and Junior class standing is preferred. The intern will be immersed in the analysis of market pricing and profitability analysis. The student will have the opportunity to learn about the generic pharmaceutical industry, which is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. The intern will see all aspects of the job and work with the team during strategy development and implementation. Not all interns do the same tasks, but past projects have involved work with market pricing analysis, market share analysis, profitability analysis, vendor negotiations and other tasks as assigned. The intern’s supervisor will assist the intern in assigning priority to these multiple projects. Candidates need excellent analytical skills, a desire to learn more about the pharmaceutical industry, and outstanding oral and written communication skills. The student will have the opportunity to learn about the pharmaceutical industry, retail pharmacy and category management. The intern will see all aspects of the job and work with the team coordinating product promotions, item performance reviews and supply chain management. The intern’s supervisor will assist the intern in assigning projects and coordinating daily tasks.
