Phoebe Eng to speak on "cultural fluency"
Award-winning author and strategist Phoebe Eng will be speaking on “Cultural Fluency: Creating Dialogues that Lead to Change” on Monday, September 12, at 11 a.m. in Rammelkamp Chapel as part of the 2011 IC Connections Convocations.

Join Eng as she describes the concept of "cultural fluency," the ability to understand, and be understood, across perceived boundaries and among many communities. She will demonstrate how the ability to be "fluent" will be critically important and valuable to leaders in a world where borders of all kinds are disappearing.

Eng is a national lecturer, social change strategist and author of the critically acclaimed Warrior Lessons, her groundbreaking account of race, empowerment and leadership in a changing world. As a strategist, she has worked with a broad range of institutions, helping them understand the complexities of race, and create programs that enhance access, equity and opportunity for all.

All first-year students participate in IC Connections, an interlocking set of programs designed to help the students make a good transition to college life. A part of this program is the convocations which are selected to assist in developing new students in the ability to create nurturing collaborative relationships, critical exploration and global awareness in our community.
