Ann Marie Stahel is a native of Cass County in Illinois. For 20 years, Ms. Stahel toured widely in Europe as a flautist in addition to teaching music in the K-8 classroom and students at the Conservatory of Music in Lucerne, Switzerland. After returning to the United States for a short period, she left again to teach music and serve as the school choral director at a missionary school in the Highlands of Papua, New Guinea for two years. In addition to directing the Illinois College Wind Ensemble, Ms. Stahel is presently assistant to the President of Illinois College and assistant secretary to the Board of Trustees, and organist and choir director for Our Saviour Catholic Church in Jacksonville, Illinois.
Why I love to teach music:
I thoroughly enjoy sharing my enthusiasm for all aspects of music performance - discovery of a great composition, study and development of interpretation, regular rehearsal time to perfect the details, and that wonderful moment of performance, of sharing the music in front of one or many in the audience. I am thankful for the wonderful teachers in my life who made music performance alive and vibrant for me.
