Shrubs, evergreens and woody perennials that retain their small stature throughout their lifetime are also present.     The Arbor Day Foundation has honored Illinois College as a 2012 Tree Campus USA College for its dedication to campus forestry management and environmental stewardship. Illinois College is the second college or university in Illinois to be named a Tree Campus USA University. Illinois State University was among the 29 institutions that earned the designation when it was first made available by the Arbor Day Foundation in 2008.
