The whole division of student affairs works together to create a series of workshops each semester to help students develop different leadership skills. The programs are open to all students. Here are some of the sample topics covered:
Teambuilding and Leadership
Is your organization or team feeling a little flat? Learn how to pump them up with a successful teambuilder! This leadershop will focus on the goals of teambuilders and why they work, plus provide you with the skills to facilitate several different types of teambuilding activities on your own. Be prepared to have fun and be active at this leadershop!
Project Planning
Are you lost when it comes to planning a project or an event? This leadershop will focus on the “how to” of project planning as well as specific information for navigating our campus policies. Learn to map it out with this exciting program!
Critical Thinking for Leadership :: How to Use Risk Management to Succeed
Not sure how to plan for and react to unexpected issues? This leadershop will help you reframe your thinking about risky ventures and how to use risk management and critical thinking to help your organization or group succeed. Don’t get blindsided again!
Taking Care of Yourself
Participants will learn how to deal appropriately with stress, over-commitment and potential burnout so they can find the right balance in their lives. Topics covered will include: stress and time management, establishing boundaries, sleep, hygiene, diet and exercise. Learn more at this leadershop so you won’t get buried!
Marketing Leadership Skills on Your Resumé
Worried about the resumé you need to apply for leadership positions on- and off-campus? Attend this workshop to start or continue your professional resumé and learn how to market yourself and your skills. If you already have a resumé started, please bring it on a flash drive. Don't get frustrated, get the answers!
STEP UP! Bystander Intervention
Have you ever wanted to help someone but didn’t know what to do or how to intervene safely? “STEP UP!” is a program that focuses on providing students with the skills and confidence to help others in difficult situations. This program challenges you to “STEP UP!” and be a leader on- and off-campus.
Marketing What You Do
Often we spend too much time promoting our events, but not enough time marketing them. The difference is in how we approach what we do. What they don’t know CAN hurt you! This program will jump start or re-energize your efforts to get the word out about your events or organizations.
Interviewing for Success
Interviews….What do you wear? What do you say? What do you bring? These questions and more will be discussed at this leadershop. Whether you need to interview for a leadership position on campus, a full-time job or internship, or a summer position, these interviewing tips will help you prepare for and nail your interview.
