GENERAL

EbscoHost Academic Search Premier: a good general purpose database with both magazines and journals. Use Boolean operators for best results. Some full text.

Encyclopedia Britannica: the well-known general encyclopedia in electronic full text form.

PerAbs: another good general purpose database, handicapped only by its relatively sparse indexing. Some full text.

Wilson Select Plus: a good general purpose database. Somewhat smaller than the other general databases, but ALL of the articles are available in full text.

ArticleFirst: a general database, with many titles but limited indexing. Some full text.

LexisNexis: a very large full text database. Primarily newspapers, but also includes medical, legal, governmental, and business information.

JSTOR: a full text database of 440 scholarly journals. Contains the full run of included titles, EXCEPT for the most recent five years. Allows searching the full text, and provides a scanned image of the journal pages rather than a text file.

Project Gutenberg: a very large collection of free ebooks, containing many classic titles.

ECO: a relatively small general database. We do not receive the full text.

WorldCat: a database of library cataloging records. Can be used as a combined catalog to the collections of most American and some foreign libraries. Primarily books, not periodicals. No full text.

New York Times (Historical): an image of every page of every issue from 1851 to 2003.

Newsbank Chicago Tribune: the full text of the Trib back to 1985.

America's News Magazines: 27 general interest magazines in full text form.

Clase Periodica: an index of Latin American journals in the sciences and humanities.

OCLC FirstSearch: a large database provider offering several different databases.


BUSINESS

EbscoHost Business Source Elite: a relatively large business and economics database. Use Boolean operators for best results. Some full text.

EbscoHost Regional Business News : a small, full text database of regional business periodicals and newspapers. Use Boolean operators for best results.

LexisNexis: a very large full text database. Primarily newspapers, but also includes medical, legal, governmental, and business information.

HEALTH AND MEDICINE

Medline: the standard medical database. OCLC does not update Medline as frequently as the federal government does through its PubMed version of this database, available for free on the Web at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi

EbscoHost Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition: a database of health and medicine, good for nursing journals not covered by Medline. Use Boolean operators for best results. Some full text.

EbscoHost Health Source: Consumer Edition: a database of health and medicine aimed at laypeople. Use Boolean operators for best results. Some full text.

Liebert online journals: a collection of online journals by a single publisher. Primarily biomedical.

BioOneA relatively small full text database covering core journals in biology and life sciences.

American Chemical Society Publications:a searchable full text database of journals about chemistry, with some material relevant to other sciences.

MathSciNet: a searchable full text database of journals about mathematics, with some material relevant to the sciences.

SOCIAL SCIENCE

PsycInfo: two million citations regarding psychology. The standard database for the discipline. No full text.

PsycARTICLES: the complete full text from 42 journals published by the American Psychological Association, back to 1988.

SocIndex with Full Text: a very comprehensive database of journals, books, and conference papers from the discipline of sociology.  Some titles back to the early twentieth century.

EbscoHost Communication and Mass Media Articles Index: a new database which combines several well known and well regarded indexes for this field, including CommSearch and Mass Media Articles Index. Use Boolean operators for best results. Some full text.

ComAbstracts: a database of the professional scholarly literature of communications. Abstracts only, no full text. Use the CommSearch CD (available at the Circulation Desk) for full text.

Literature Resource Center A full text source of literary criticism, including all the content of the print Comtemporary Authors set.

MLA Bibliography The premiere scholarly database for the study of literature.

ATLAReligion: the standard database for the scholarly study of religion, including biblical interpretation. Some full text.

Illinois Periodicals Online: a small collection of magazines and journals related to Illinois. Full text, but limited searching.

Digital Sanborn Maps, 1867-1970: an online collection of fire insurance maps, providing very detailed information about most American towns and cities.

HarpWeek: a searchable full text electronic version of Harper's Weekly from 1857 to 1889.

Saskia Art Images: a searchable collection of 30,000 images of art, including paintings, sculpture, and architechture.

Lexis Nexis Congressional: coverage from 1970 to the present with full text of congressional publications, finding aids, a bill tracking service, and the full text of public laws and other research materials.

EbscoHost Newspaper Source: a full text database of major newspapers, with selected full text from regional papers. Use Boolean operators for best results.

CQ Researcher: the full text of the well-known periodical which provides detailed coverage of opposing positions on controversial issues. Coverage from 1991 to the present.

EbscoHost Military and Government Collection FullTEXT: a database of military journals and periodicals devoted to the operation of government.
