Head Coach Mike Worrell

As he begins another season at the helm at IC, Mike Worrell has used a wealth of local talent and a relentless work ethic to make a significant impact on the IC men’s basketball program.

Worrell has named Midwest Conference “Coach of the Year” in 1999 as the Blueboys finished over .500 for the first time in 20 years. IC also advanced to the MWC Tournament for the first time in school history that season. Then, in 2003, Worrell again was voted MWC “Coach of the Year” as IC won the MWC Tournament for the first time and advanced to the NCAA Division III National Tournament. Other successful seasons have seen the Blueboys go 14-10 in 2001 and 13-11 in 2002. Since the MWC went to a 10-team conference, IC has made the top four and the post-season tournament four out of six years.

Success seems to follow Worrell wherever he goes. Prior to assuming the reins at IC, Worrell spent six years as an assistant coach at The College of Wooster in Ohio. During that time, the Fighting Scots compiled a 135-32 record, won three North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament titles, and made five NCAA D-III Tournament appearances.
