Faculty Development
	Illinois College wants all faculty to continue to develop as teachers and scholars. It offers the following opportunities to aid faculty in their continuing development. These policies are discussed in more detail in the Faculty Handbook, pp. 55-57. Type of Funding Amount Purpose Professional Development Funds (available yearly) $500 per full-time faculty member Part-time faculty who are paid a proportion of a full-time salary can receive funds at a proportional rate to their workload. For faculty travel related to scholarship and teaching, purchase of books, disciplinary journal subscriptions, professional memberships, materials and equipment for experiments Travel for research or conferences (available yearly) Faculty Travel/Paper Presentation/ Course Enrichment Reimbursement Form $600 per full-time faculty member (if not spent in one year, can be carried over to the next) Part-time faculty members are eligible for funding proportional to their annual workload. Administered by the Office of Academic Affairs Attendance at a professional conference or travel for research purposes Presenting at Conferences (available yearly) Faculty Travel/Paper Presentation/ Course Enrichment Reimbursement Form $350 additional per faculty member Administered by the Office of Academic Affairs Presentation of research, chairing a panel, or commenting on a paper Faculty Grants and Awards  (available yearly) $50 to more than $1,000, based on application (approx. 15 faculty per year receive one or more) Travel to conferences or research sites, purchase of materials for research, enhancement of teaching, purchase of materials for research Student-Faculty Research (available yearly) $50 to $3000, usually less than $1500, based on application; faculty can receive more than one grant yearly Students assisting faculty with research, faculty assisting students with research and equal collaborations; often used for students and faculty to travel to conferences to present research Faculty Collaboration Grants (available yearly) $50 to several thousands, based on application For faculty collaboration in teaching or research, travel to research sites or conferences, purchase of materials for collaborative research or teaching, faculty development workshops or seminars Midwest Faculty Seminars  (available yearly) Funded by Dean of the College, based on application An average of 4 faculty per year attend a topical conference sponsored by the Associated Colleges of Illinois: for example, on a particular work of literature or a cross-disciplinary theme Course Enrichment Funds (available yearly) Faculty Travel/Paper Presentation/ Course Enrichment Reimbursement Form Up to $300 Administered by the Office of Academic Affairs Part-time faculty members are eligible for funding proportional to their annual workload. For enrichment of course activities in which students participate Sabbaticals (available every 7th year) Full salary for one semester or half salary for an academic year Reading and/or travel for research or pedagogical purposes Faculty Symposia Wine and cheese IC faculty present their research, report on conferences of general interest, discuss pedagogy
