GRADUATE INFORMATION

List of 2008 Graduates
The list of graduates approved by the Faculty will be posted on the bulletin board in Caine Student Center Friday, May 9 in the afternoon. The graduate list will also be available in the Registrar’s Office, Tanner Hall.

Caps and Gowns
The Illinois College Bookstore will make a campus announcement when the caps and gowns arrive. Stop by the Illinois College Bookstore weekdays from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. or during special hours on Saturday, May 10, 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and on Sunday, May 11, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. to pick up your cap and gown. Caps and gowns are yours to keep.

Osage Orange Picnic (Friday, May 9)
6:00 p.m. Join the Illinois College family on the historic upper quadrangle for a time-honored tradition – The Osage Orange Picnic. Show your Class of 2008 pride and wear your class t-shirt or an Illinois College shirt! This is the only meal served on campus that evening using meal plan cards. All students, parents, faculty, staff and alumni are invited. In the event of rain, Cummings Dining Hall will serve as the alternate site.

Commencement Rehearsal (Saturday, May 10)
3:00 p.m. Graduates assemble in front of Rammelkamp. In case of rain, rehearsal will be held in Sherman Gymnasium, Bruner Fitness and Recreation Center.

Baccalaureate (Sunday, May 11)
10:00 a.m. Graduates gather, in cap and gown, on sidewalk south of Tanner Hall with the head of the line at the Jonathan Baldwin Turner stone near the Osage Orange tree. The Class will proceed into the Chapel, two by two, in no specific order, sitting in the front, center rows.

The College music ensembles will perform at 10:00 a.m., and the service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Your family and guests may sit anywhere they like. The speaker will be Susan D. Krummer, Executive Presbyter. In case of rain, the class will assemble and line up in the basement of the Chapel.

Luncheon Honoring Graduates and Their Families (Sunday, May 11)
11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Graduates and all members of their families and friends are invited to eat lunch on campus. Faculty and staff members are invited too. Buffet lines will be set up in Cummings Dining Hall as well as in the Uncommons. Lunch will be served until 1:00 p.m. Graduates are responsible for making reservations for their entire family by May 2 with the Alumni Office using the luncheon reply card, calling 217.245.3069 or sending an email to rsvp@ic.edu. Graduates are provided three complimentary meals, one for each graduate and two guests. Cost for additional family and friends is $10.00 - adults; $5.00 - children, ages 5 - 12; free - 4 and under, payable at the door.

Commencement (Sunday, May 11)
2:00 p.m. Graduates assemble, in cap and gown, on the steps of Rammelkamp Chapel for the 2008 Class photo. The photo will be taken promptly at 2:10 p.m. Immediately following, Legacy photos will be taken of individual graduates with their relatives who are alumni of Illinois College. Please register with the Alumni Office for the Legacy photo by using the luncheon reply card, calling 217.245.3069 or sending an email to rsvp@ic.edu .

Following the pictures, faculty marshal assistants will help you line up as follows:

  • B.A. candidates line up in alphabetical order on the walk straight out from the Chapel with the head of the line at the post.
  • B.S. candidates line up in alphabetical order on the walk running from the Chapel to the library.

After all degrees are distributed, Dr. Steuer will present the class, and as a group, you will move the tassel
left to right.

3:00 p.m. Commencement, Quadrangle. Speaker: Connie Schultz, Pulitzer Prize winning columnist for The Plain Dealer (Cleveland, Ohio). There are no tickets for Commencement. All family and friends are welcome. Chairs and bleachers are set up by the College, as well as water stations around the quadrangle. Many guests enjoy bringing their own lawn chairs and blankets.

At the end of the recessional, the faculty will form an aisle for you to walk through to be congratulated. This line will lead you to the open area of the quadrangle to meet family and friends.

In case of rain, Commencement will be held in Sherman Gymnasium, Bruner Fitness and Recreation Center. Families should enter the building by the main north entrance. 2:00 p.m. Graduates, in cap and gown, should enter the west door on the north side and gather downstairs in the King Field House for the class photo, to be taken promptly at 2:10 p.m. with legacy photos to follow. Faculty marshal assistants will help you line up on the tile floor and racing lanes on the east side of the field house as follows:

  • B.A. candidates line up in alphabetical order (on tile floor and racing lanes in the field house)
  • B.S. candidates line up in alphabetical order as a group next to the B.A. group.

When the ceremony begins, faculty and graduates will process by the racquet ball courts, enter the gym through the east doors, and go up the center aisle on the court to reserved seats.

Special Needs
Baccalaureate and Commencement will be signed for the hearing impaired. Special seating areas will be available for hearing impaired and those in wheelchairs. The following drop off points are suggested:

  • Rammelkamp Chapel – unload at the drive on the south side of the chapel
  • Cummings Hall – unload at the west door
  • Quadrangle – unload at the sidewalk between Crampton and Whipple halls
  • Sherman Gymnasium, Bruner – unload at the walk in front of the building

Handicap accessible restrooms are located in Kirby Hall, Baxter Hall, Parker Science Building, Caine Student Center, and Bruner Fitness and Recreation Center. There will be attendants at the elevator in Bruner to assist those with wheelchairs to the designated area on court level. For more information, contact the Alumni Office at 217.245.3046. An ambulance will be on site the entire day in case of an emergency.

Photo
The Office of Communication and Marketing staff will take a photograph of you receiving your diploma. The Alumni Office will send each graduate a complimentary copy of this photo and the Class of 2008 photo in June.

Class Gift
Soon, you will receive a phone call and a letter with details of the Class Gift. Remember to turn in your gift to the Advancement Office (Advancement House, southeast corner of Park and College Streets) by Monday, April 28, in order for you and your honoree to be listed in the Commencement program.
