Men’s all-MWC soccer squad includes two Blueboys
Illinois College’s Jose Roig and Cameron Stuart have garnered post-season honors from the Midwest Conference for their efforts in men’s soccer this fall.
Roig, a junior forward from Bolivia, and Stuart, a sophomore defender from Troy (Triad), were named to the all-MWC second team. The IC men finished 5-10-3 overall in 2007, including a 1-7-1 mark in conference play.
Roig and Stuart responded with stellar play throughout the season according to Head Coach Shane Taylor and emerged as team leaders as the campaign progressed.
“Both of these young men are leaders on our team, and a privilege to coach,” Taylor said after the league awards were announced.
Roig, a newcomer to IC this fall, played a key role in the team’s offensive strategy, according to Taylor.
“His presence and goal scoring ability contributed to one of the highest goal scoring years (27) in IC history."
Stuart has provided a steady presence on defense since joining the starting lineup as a freshman in 2006. According to Taylor, the second-year standout fills a critical role.
"His consistent, smart, and tenacious defensive play has been crucial to our success,” the IC coach stated. “He leads by example and I think the best is yet to come with Cameron."
