Welcome to Illinois College Indoor Track

The 2007 indoor track season proved to be yet another triumphant year for both the IC men’s and women’s track and field squads. Building on the success from previous years, Sophomore Tyler Shupe from Mendon, Ill was one of many IC track athletes who helped jump-start the season in an enormous way. In the first meet of the season, the Rose-Hulman indoor track and field invitational, his record setting throw of 46 – 11.50 in the shot put was more than sufficient for first place. Tyler Shupe’s then indoor record became one of sixteen new indoor school records this year, and helped set the tone for what was to follow the rest of the year, as seven more records fell during the outdoor season.

Performances this year at the MWC Indoor Championships were more than what was expected of coaches and team members. Illinois College boasted fifteen All-Midwest Conference performances, and a strong second place finish on the men’s side. D.J. Jackson of St. Louis, MO led the meet by racking up points in the long jump (1st place), 55 (2nd place), 200 (3rd place), 800- meter relay (2nd place), and the 1600-meter relay (2nd place). Other outstanding performances included both the women’s and men’s championship and record setting sprint medley relays. Head Coach Mike Brooks was also fortunate as he came away with Head Men’s Coach of the Year honors for the accomplishments in his team’s success. D.J. Jackson along with senior Greg Tanner (Beardstown, IL) eventually went on to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Indoor Championships in both the 55m dash, and high jump respectively.

The coaches and staff are very thrilled to see what the 2008 season will entail. With the help of fourteen school record holding returnees, IC will work hard to increase their point standings in the Midwest Conference. Illinois College will be strong this year in both the men’s and women’s sprints as Head Coach Mike Brooks has developed a strong tradition of excellence in the long and short sprints as well as field events. Additional help will also come from the men’s distance team. Freshmen Kyle Garrett, Joseph Heidbreder, and Freshman/Sophomore Ryan Bishop look to make a big impact for the team, as both have come off a successful 2007 cross country season, as well as successful seasons during their high school careers.
