2006-2007 Recap:
The Illinois College Track & Field Program has made big improvements in the Midwest Conference standings under the helm of Head Coach Mike Brooks.
Due to renovations on the outdoor track, both teams have had to make due with the indoor facilities this outdoor season. The season had never looked more promising in the last few weeks heading into the Conference track meet. Seven new records had been set, and senior John Rohn (Beardstown, IL) and sophomore D.J. Jackson (St. Louis, MO) qualified for the NCAA National Outdoor meet in the decathlon, and the 100 meters respectively.
The IC men tallied 133 points finishing second in the outdoor conference meet. D.J. Jackson, who won nine All-Midwest Conference honors, including setting the outdoor 100-meter conference record, once again led Illinois College. Senior Ashley Meyers (Litchfield, IL) took home a MWC Championship title in the shot put (43-9). Both D.J. Jackson and Ashley Meyers were also named MWC performers of the year. At the Division III National Championship meet at Oshkosh, WI, Ashley Meyers finished ninth in the nation in the shot put (42-2.75), and in the 200 (21.92) and 100 (10.93), D.J. Jackson finished 26th and 21st respectively.
Meyers, who holds the Illinois College outdoor shot put record, was one of just 23 women named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District College Division Women's Track and Field Team for 2006-2007. She earned second-team honors. Fifteen of the IC track & field members earned Academic All-Conference honors for both seasons.
Coach Brooks is very optimistic about IC's opportunities this year. With a great mix of veteran and new recruits, the IC squads hope to continue their rise in the conference standings.
