Head Coach - Shane Taylor

Head coach Shane Taylor begins his third season as the leader of the Blueboys' soccer program, bringing with him over 16 years of playing experience and over 10 years of coaching experience. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Ashford University in Organizational Management. Coach Taylor has earned two NSCAA diplomas: The Regional and The Advanced Regional. Recently he was selected to the 11th edition of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers and Coaches.
Shane began his soccer career in Dallas, Texas, competing at the highest club level. His club team Flame 72', won the Dallas Classic League in 1988 and the McDonald's cup in North Carolina in 1989, and with his high school team Newman Smith, was the state runner-up in 1989. He then moved to Connecticut his senior year and made an instant impact on his high school club Daniel Hand. His team ended up fourth in the state tournament and Taylor earned all-conference, all-area, and all-state honors. Furthermore, Shane was presented with the Daniel Hand Leadership Award in recognition of his impact on the field and in his community.
Taylor played his freshman year of college at East Stroudsburg University. As a freshman goalkeeper he earned over half the starts. He then finished his college career at Bethany College. At Bethany, Shane earned captainship, KCAC all-conference team, and MVP of the McPherson College tournament.
As a coach, Taylor has coached two club teams, and volunteered his time to coach several youth teams. At the club level, Taylor's first team Flame 78', won their league, placed second once, won the Little Rock Invitational tournament, and placed second at the Pikes Peak Invitational in Colorado, along with several other high finishes. Furthermore, since 1989, Shane has provided youth and college goalkeepers private lessons.
Since Coach Taylor has arrived at Illinois College, the team has steadily improved in wins, participation, and overall team performance. He has coached the Blueboys’ to two consecutive Mayor’s Cup titles. In 2006, the team finished in 7th place in the Midwest Conference with three conference wins, the team’s best finish since 2002.

Coach Taylor resides in Winchester, Illinois with his wife Misty and his three children, Octavia (12), Skyler (5), and Shaughn (3). He and his wife are actively involved in the Winchester youth soccer program.
