Faculty Mentoring Program

Illinois College began a program to mentor new tenure-track faculty in fall 2007.  We are grateful that the Lilly Foundation supplied the funding for the development of this program.  The continuing program seeks to encourage new faculty to understand the Illinois College mission and how they can be part of realizing that mission.  The program also aims to help new faculty become successful through understanding the context of working at IC.

• New faculty are matched with a tenured faculty member.  Pairs usually meet monthly to talk and exchange classroom visits each semester.
  
• All faculty involved with the mentoring program meet monthly for a discussion about issues related to the Illinois College mission, excellence in teaching, successfully maintaining a creative or scholarship agenda, life-work balance, and participation in faculty governance and service.
  
• We encourage mentoring pairs to attend a conference together, one of interest to both professors.  Several have chosen conferences of general interest to faculty, such as conferences sponsored by the Consortium on Undergraduate Research and by the American Association of Colleges and Universities.
  
• The Program is led by Professor of English Robert Koepp and directed by a Mentoring Committee.  The Committee chooses the tenured faculty who act as mentors; the Committee works hard at finding useful matches.
