Business Class

The courses in this department are intended to give an understanding of the nature, operation, and problems of the economy and modern business. They are designed to meet the needs of all students desiring a broader understanding of the economic aspects of their environment as well as for students planning business careers. The offerings of the department also provide pre-professional training leading to graduate study in accounting, economics, finance, business management, public administration, and law.

The Department of Computer Science and the Department of Economics and Business Administration offer a major in Management Information Systems (MIS). The primary focus of the major in Management Information Systems (MIS) is for students to learn a solid practical foundation in software development (algorithm development and programming) and the foundations of business administration. Students further have the opportunity to learn various topics by taking elective courses in computer science. The major in MIS helps to prepare students for a career in the field and/or further study in a graduate program. Students are carefully advised by faculty members from both departments.
All students majoring in Management Information Systems must have MATH 201, 213, and either MATH 123 or MATH 341 as tools for the degree.

A major in Management Information Systems consists of:

  1. 24 semester hours in the department of Economics and Business Administration including ACC 231; BUAD 354, 364, 425, 485; ECON 101, 102; and FIN 352.
  2. 23 semester hours in the department of Computer Science including CSC 160, 170, 230,260 plus nine hours from CSC 250 (COBOL), 330, 340, 350, 360, 410, 430, 440, or 470.
