Welcome to the web presence of Illinois College. This site introduces you to the people and programs of Illinois College and provides you a glimpse of the resources the College has to provide its students with an outstanding liberal arts education. I invite you to visit our beautiful campus in historic Jacksonville to see for yourself what Illinois College has to offer. You will meet students who have come to Illinois College from eighteen states and fifteen countries and see a classic college campus recently updated with more than $50 million in physical improvements.
Illinois College continues in the tradition of leading the way that has been its hallmark since 1829. One of the first Illinois colleges to be awarded a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the College offers a challenging academic program that provides excellent preparation for graduate and professional study. The 12:1 student to faculty ratio ensures ready access to faculty who share a commitment to helping students succeed.
Illinois College is marked by a strong sense of community, humane values, respect for the dignity of all people, and a tradition of service to others. The entire Illinois College family has embraced the affirmation of community responsibility and the campus is guided by an academic honor code developed by students.
Among its prominent alumni, Illinois College counts seventeen members of Congress, six governors, and various advisors to United States Presidents. The College was the site of the first medical school in the State of Illinois, and an Illinois College education continues to be well suited for students who wish to pursue careers in medicine, law, education, business, or public life.
In addition to pursuing rigorous courses of study in twenty-six majors and five interdisciplinary programs, students at Illinois College can participate in nineteen intercollegiate sports and in any of sixty student organizations. The visual and performing arts also thrive at the College.
The strength of Illinois College is rooted in the teaching skills and commitment to students of its faculty. These scholars are passionate about their academic disciplines and foster in students a desire for learning that extends far beyond their college years. The personal touch to education pervades all offices and services at the College.
