Illinois College is continuing to offer professional development/elective courses. This fall will feature a course on enacting science and engineering practices in the classroom.

The ED 603 Enacting Science and Engineering Practices in the K-12 Classroom is designed for in-service teachers wanting to continue their education, and can earn 15 Continuing Professional Development Units (CPDUs).

The course will meet from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on September 11 and 25, October 9 and 23, and December 11. The cost will be $200 plus reading materials as needed for teachers wanting to earn CPDUs. For those teachers looking to earn graduate credit, the cost is $400 plus reading materials as needed. The registration deadline is September 1. To sign up or request more information, contact the Office of Admission at 217-245-3030 or admission@mail.ic.edu.

The ED 603 course will address issues around designing and implementing inquiry-based science teaching. “This is geared toward science teachers and those teachers who teach science as part of their teaching curriculum for K- 12 students,” Todd Oberg, director of the Teacher Preparation Program, said. “Particularly, it is geared toward teachers looking at implementing or learning how to implement the Science and Engineering portion of the Next Generation Science Standards which is the equivalent of the Common Core Standards for math and English.”
