Andy Sonneborn ’06

Andy SonnebornMajored in religion
Pastor, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
Andy is currently serving two congregations in Northwestern Kansas, Colby and Hoxie. His responsibilities include weekly worship services, pastoral care, leading education classes and encouraging congregants in their personal ministries.

“Serving two congregations in two different communities provides unique challenges: learning two different communities, recognizing two different cultures, learning the names of people in two different congregations and balancing pastoral duties in the effort to ensure that I am not focusing too much time on one particular congregation.”

“My education at Illinois College provided me with the framework I needed to think critically about my faith and religion. My religion courses gave me an educational basis to make informed choices and to see the world in a different light. With this theological groundwork, I was able to attend graduate school and get a Master of Divinity degree which opened the door for me to become a minister. To this day, I still heavily rely on the education that I received from Illinois College in my career.”
