Summary
The Director of Prospect Research and Management supports and guides the fundraising efforts of Illinois College by conducting research, categorizing prospects and donors in terms of interest and capacity, and determining when they should be moved to active prospect lists for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.  The Director of Prospect Research and Management assigns prospects by interest and affinity, manages movement through the pipeline, and assists development officers in planning strategies and priorities. The Director of Prospect Research and Management tracks the progress of development officers within their prospect portfolios, maintains the contact history, and meets the research needs of the Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations and President. 

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with all development officers, while directing and providing accountability control as it relates to supervising the College’s donor prospects and its moves management program
  • Implement analytic tools to identify top major gift and annual fund up-grade prospects
  • Maintain a prospect management system using the College’s donor database, Jenzabar
  • Proactively identify potential major gift prospects through monitoring news reports, the daily cash report, screening of the discovery pool and affinity metrics to recommend qualification visits for major gift officers
  • Provide prospect management support to the Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations, including monthly visit summary reports and other performance metric driven reports
  • Compile recommendations for key volunteer leadership roles and award nominations 
  • Proficient at uncovering wealth and inclination indicators to create donor profiles in anticipation of events and visits
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours required

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree is required 
  • The preferred candidate will have a minimum of two years of research experience in higher education, a nonprofit, library sciences or related field
  • Proficiency with internet research and familiarity with on-line search engines sources Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs including Word and Excel
  • Experience with information resources including fundraising databases
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, along with strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Skill in analyzing financial and statistical information
  • Ability to work with highly sensitive and confidential information
  • Ability to work creatively
  • A commitment to fostering a collegial and team environment
