Illinois College welcomes new VP of development and alumni relations

Illinois College is pleased to announce the appointment of William Johnson as vice president of development and alumni relations. Johnson brings 25 years of development and fundraising expertise from various institutions throughout the Midwest.

The college selected Johnson after concluding a national search led by senior consultant Rick Torgerson of AGB Search. Johnson’s development and alumni relations experience includes work in all facets of fundraising operations including annual fund, major gifts, campaign planning, planned giving and gift stewardship.

As an avid supporter of liberal arts institutions, Johnson has been employed as a senior-level administrator at Hiram College in Ohio, DePauw University in Indiana, and most recently, Gustavus Adolphus College in Minneapolis. Johnson is an alumnus of Wartburg College in Iowa and the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University where he completed his MBA.

“William Johnson has demonstrated an expertise in translating institutional funding opportunities into specific initiatives to further the mission and programs of the campus, while championing the interests and passions of donors,” Illinois College President Barbara A. Farley said. “He will be a wonderful addition to the Illinois College team.”

Johnson and his wife, Sandy, are excited to move to the Jacksonville community. They have two children, Chelsea, who is attending Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis., and Evan, a 2013 graduate of Lawrence University.

Johnson began his work at Illinois College on January 13, 2014.
