Each fall an outstanding senior from each of the four-year degree-granting institutions of higher learning in Illinois is awarded the Student Lincoln Academy Medallion and thereby becomes a Student Laureate of The Lincoln Academy of Illinois. Student Laureates are honored for their overall excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities. They also receive a $1,000 educational grant.
Nguyen is double majoring in communication and rhetorical studies, and economics. She is President of the Coalition for Ethnic Awareness and coordinated the Illinois College 2nd Annual Diversity Week. Nguyen is also public relations chair for the Rambler and IC Feminists and serves on Student Forum, plus she was a Connections Leader and part of the cast of IC’s fall theater production, “The Caucasian Chalk Circle.”
“These students have exhibited a personal commitment to excel as seen by their remarkable academic accomplishments,” Governor Pat Quinn said. “They serve as role models to all Illinois students. With hard-working and dedicated young leaders such as these, Illinois and the rest of the nation can look forward to a bright future.”
