Former editor of USA Today, Ken Paulson, to speak at IC
Ken Paulson, former editor-in-chief and senior vice president of USA Today, will be at Illinois College on Wednesday, November 6, at 7 p.m. in Kirby Learning Center, Room 6 to talk about the First Amendment.

Paulson’s presentation, "James Madison and Twitter: How the Digital Generation Can Change the World," will explore how students born in the 1990s have a unique set of skills and perspectives, and how that can change things – for better and for worse.

Paulson is the president of the First Amendment Center and dean of the College of Mass Communication at Middle Tennessee State University. He is also a columnist on USA Today’s board of contributors, writing about First Amendment issues.

Throughout his career, Paulson has drawn on his background as both a journalist and lawyer, serving as the editor or managing editor of newspapers in five different states.

He was on the team of journalists who founded USA Today in 1982 before moving on to manage newsrooms in Westchester County, N.Y., Green Bay, Wis., Bridgewater, N.J., and at Florida Today in Brevard County, Fla.

Paulson is also the founder of 1 for All, a national campaign on behalf of the First Amendment, launched on July 1, 2010, with support from more than 1,100 news, arts and religious organizations.

This presentation is free and open to the public. For more information contact Adrienne Hacker Daniels, professor of communication and rhetorical studies, at 217-245-3465 or at ahacker@mail.ic.edu.
