IC welcomes record-setting rower, adventurer Katie Spotz

Katie Spotz, the youngest person to row solo across the Atlantic Ocean, will tell her inspirational story at Illinois College on Monday, October 28, at 11 a.m. in Rammelkamp Chapel.

As a result of this amazing feat and other adventures, the 24-year-old Spotz has raised more than $150,000 to provide clean water for those in need. Spotz will speak with honesty, humility and passion about the inspiring tales of her adventures of success, failure, risk-taking, overcoming adversity and achieving what we set out to achieve, no matter how steep the odds.

Spotz is continuing to raise awareness of the plight of the billions around the world suffering from a lack of safe drinking water, giving talks to groups and organizations around the country. The list of accomplishments to her name is long, and includes a half-ironman triathlon, an ultramarathon in Australia, cycling across the country, a 325-mile river swim, running across deserts and the solo row across the Atlantic Ocean that took 70 days.

The presentation is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Center for Student Involvement at 217-245-3094 or at khomolk@ic.edu.
