|Illinois College homecoming celebration continues|
|Illinois College will celebrate homecoming all next week, October 7–13, with a parade, athletic contests, and student and alumni activities.|
One of the highlights of the week is the college’s annual homecoming parade that will take place on Saturday, October 12, at 10 a.m. The parade will be staged this year in Duncan Park. Entries will step off at the corner of West State Street and Sandusky Road and head east on State to the Historic Jacksonville Downtown Square.
The honorary parade marshals this year are Jim and Kaye Bruner. A 1966 graduate of Illinois College, Jim has been an ardent supporter of every facet of Illinois College, with his most significant contributions given to the Bruner Fitness and Recreation Center named in his family’s honor. The Bruners recently funded a matching gift challenge to increase alumni giving to the college’s annual fund, and the couple co-chaired the Expectation & Fulfillment Campaign which raised over $40 million for Illinois College. In addition, Jim was recognized with the college’s Distinguished Service Award in 1999 and was awarded an honorary degree in 2012 upon his retirement from the Illinois College Board of Trustees.
The Illinois College football team will take the field at 1 p.m. on Saturday against Lake Forest College on Green Athletic Field at England Stadium. Throughout the week the Blueboys and Lady Blues will be competing in a number of athletic events. A list of upcoming events can be found at www.illinoiscollegeathletics.com.
Homecoming weekend will conclude on Sunday, October 13, with an interdenominational worship service in Rammelkamp Chapel at 10 a.m. Illinois College Chaplain Katrina Jenkins will lead the service that will feature special music by the alumni choir.
A pep rally will kick off homecoming week on Monday, October 7, at 8 p.m., with a full week of student activities to follow. Alumni events are also planned throughout the week. Click here for a list of all the Illinois College Homecoming events. You can also call 217-245-3046 for more information.
