||Illinois College hosted Eboo Patel as the Khalaf Al Habtoor lecturer on Monday, September 30, at 11 a.m. in Rammelkamp Chapel on the college campus. His presentation, “Act of Faith: Interfaith Leadership in a Time of Global Crisis,” was free and open to the public.
Patel’s core belief is that religion is a bridge of cooperation rather than a barrier of division. He’s inspired to build this bridge by his faith as a Muslim, his Indian heritage and his American citizenship. Patel has written two books about interfaith cooperation, Acts of Faith and Sacred Ground.
"The United States has become increasingly pluralistic religiously, but interfaith dialogue often challenges people, even those with good intentions. Eboo Patel is a leader in encouraging people of different religious backgrounds to work together and to learn to respect other religious traditions. We look forward to hosting him at Illinois College and to hearing his thoughts on the important topic of developing respect between different faith communities," says Adam Porter, professor of religion and associate dean.
