||During a faculty reception honoring the inauguration of Barbara Farley as the 14th president of Illinois College, a special presentation was made – she was given wisdom. Not just wisdom, but a book titled The Wisdom of Presidents.
The Wisdom of Presidents was presented by Steve Hochstadt, editor, along with the College’s History and Political Science Department on behalf of the faculty of Illinois College. Selected from the archives of Illinois College, the book highlights previous interviews from four past presidents of the college as they shared their thoughts on academic leadership, their vision for liberal arts and their careers. Those featured include Harris Gary Hudson, William Kirkpatrick Selden, Louis Vernon Caine and Donald Charles Mundinger, whose collective tenure as president of Illinois College spanned 55 years.
“These four interviews show what presidents have done at Illinois College in the 20th century, how they have thought about their roles and their visions for the liberal arts. They all had created extraordinary careers and brought considerable administrative experience to this task. They all describe events and people, as well as express what they learned about academic leadership in general and this one college in particular,” shares Hochstadt.
