Monday, September 16, 2013

Adam Davis explores what we hope to gain from engaging with others in our communities. He holds “civic engagement” up against alternative ways to describe worthwhile conduct such as charity, social entrepreneurship, service, ministry, solidarity and activism. He suggests that our current aspirational language may pose a few real problems for the activity we are trying to describe – though it may also reveal much of what gives meaning to the activity and to our lives.

A leader defines reality. From Martin Luther King, Jr. to Mahatma Gandhi, Dorothy Day to Abraham Joshua Heschel, the answer was clear: interfaith leadership. Join us as Illinois College welcomes Eboo Patel as the Khalaf Al Habtoor Lecturer for the 2013-14 academic year.
