Illinois College Service Blitz to help 10 locations in Jacksonville

The tradition of sharing and caring through service in the Jacksonville area will be on display Sunday, August 25, starting at 1:30 p.m. when teams of Illinois College students, faculty and staff tackle a variety of projects throughout the community.

The college’s 20th Annual Community Service Blitz will have volunteers working on a number of projects which include painting, landscape work, picking up litter and general cleaning to name a few. Over 300 new students, returning students, faculty and staff are expected to participate in the service event.

Service work will take place at the Chamber of Commerce, Community Park – Pergola, Ebenezer Cemetery, Morgan County Fair Grounds, Western Illinois Youth Camp, Prairieland Heritage Museum, Robert Freesen YMCA, Nichols Park – Lake Morgan & Lake Mauvaisterre, Jacksonville Pony Colt Field and Asa Talcott House – Imagine Foundation.

“The Service Blitz is a 20-year tradition, and each year we look forward to introducing our students to the community and engaging in these service opportunities,” Lori Oldenettel, coordinator of community engagement and service, said. “Enhancing academic success and developing civic engagement helps prepare students for futures of leadership and service.”
