IC sophomore elected to be board member of junior cattle program

Illinois College sophomore Taryn Adcock of Assumption was one of four new directors elected to the 12-member board of directors of the National Junior Hereford Association this past July at the Junior National Hereford Expo in Kansas City, Mo.

The NJHA is one of the largest, strongest and most active junior cattle programs in the country. The board of directors governs the NJHA with each director serving a three-year term. Every year, four new board members are elected at the annual membership meeting which is held in conjunction with the Junior National Hereford Expo. During their term, directors develop and implement programs and events that serve junior Hereford members across the nation. The NJHA board also makes recommendations for new programs and ideas to the American Hereford Association Board of Directors, they help train other juniors, and they promote the Hereford breed at various activities and events throughout the year.

Adcock is majoring in business and economics at Illinois College. She is a varsity volleyball player and also serves as a student ambassador for the college. She has been an NJHA member for 11 years and currently serves as the secretary of the Illinois Junior Hereford Association.

This past week at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield, Adcock was named the reserve champion senior showman, selected as the top beef showman in the Master Showmanship contest and elected to serve as the vice president of the Illinois Junior Beef Association.

Adcock is quick to credit her family for the opportunity to serve in leadership positions and for her success. “They take on the extra work when I have to take time away from the cattle – we are a team. No way could I do this without them,” she says.

Her family includes her parents, Jim and Jan, sister Tamar and twin brothers Dean and Del.
