Jazz trio, pianist headline Engelbach-Hart Music Festival
The third annual Engelbach-Hart Music Festival is planned for Thursday, June 13, through Saturday, June 15, at Illinois College, thanks to the generosity of the Engelbach-Hart family. The festival will celebrate the rich heritage of music in our community with three concerts and a workshop.

The festival begins with “Music for a Summer Evening” with the Illinois College music faculty on Thursday, June 13, at 7:30 p.m. St. Louis native Carolbeth True will bring her jazz trio, “Two Times True,” to stage on Friday, June 14, at 7:30 p.m. To close out the music festival on Saturday, June 15, at 7:30 p.m. will be classical pianist Ian Hobson. An Improvisation Workshop will also be held earlier on Friday at 3 p.m. All concerts, along with the workshop, will be in Rammelkamp Chapel and are free and open to the public.

True, a jazz and classical pianist, will perform music with her trio by Miles Davis, Henry Mancini and Cole Porter, as well as others on Friday night. True is an adjunct professor teaching jazz and classical piano at Webster University and an active member in the St. Louis musical community. The other two members of the trio are bassist Glen Smith and her son, David True, on drums.

Hobson, a distinguished pianist and conductor, will perform the final concert of the festival on Saturday evening. Hobson is a native of Wolverhampton, England, and is recognized throughout the world for his masterful performances of the romantic repertoire. Saturday’s concert will feature scores from Chopin, Brahms, Ravel and Rachmaninoff.
